POUND FARM was evidently the location of the Bentley Estate pound to which stray animals were taken to be kept until claimed by their owners. From the 1930s until the 1970s this small farm was in the hands of George Tongue who died, aged 93, in 1980. Besides keeping two or three cows and growing vegetables, he used his horse and cart to do haulage work for the local council. The next resident had a metal business. Then the elegant farmhouse was bought by John Stokes in 1985 and extended in keeping with its original stylish barge-boarding and diamond-paned windows. The old black and white barn has been converted to living accommodation.
